Devils and BCC-Scarlett faced off at Emerald Fields in one of the key battles for position in Group B. On an overcast day, the ground still wet from all the rain the day before, BCC won the toss and decided to bat. Dinakar and Ravi opened the bowling and constantly troubled the batsmen with their pace and swing. Kirti and Nikunj played well to survive the opening spell from both bowlers were looking poised for big scores when Faisal and Waleed were introduced into the attack. Playing in what might have been his last game for the Devils; Faisal bowled with purpose and deadly accuracy.  Kirti fell in Faisal’s first over to a gem of delivery as he tried to go for the pull but could not handle the pace and bounce for a catch well taken by Anwer. Faisal went to work to destroy the rest of BCC’s batting lineup as he took the first four wickets of the match. Deval was the next batsmen to go, caught at second slip, courtesy of an absolute screamer from Raghu. Nikunj played well for his 26 but tried to take on Faisal one-too-many and was caught at wide Long-On, accurately placed for him, with the score at 61. Devin and Nakul were looking to build the innings and provide a platform to launch when Devin was undone by an amazing delivery from Faisal and the edge was held comfortably by Birthday boy Bharath. From 53 for no loss to 68 for 4 wickets the BCC lineup was wrecked by some hostile fast bowling. The batsmen might have looked to just play out Faisal’s overs if not for some extremely disciplined bowling from Waleed.  The batsmen were constantly cramped for room and could not get Waleed away for any runs. Waleed had one of the most economical spells of the game in which he focused on line and length and bowled wicket to wicket. With Devin gone, Nakul looked to take BCC to a big score individually. Prashanth was brought into the attack alongside Amit. The partnership looked to be gaining momentum when Prashanth had Lucky caught behind with a gem of a delivery with the score at 96. Ravi was then brought back into the attack and pulled a wicket out of nowhere when he had the dangerous Nakul run out at the non-strikers end. Ravi managed to get a hand on the straight drive hit by Manohar that then hit the stumps and had Nakul short of the crease. Nakul might think he was unlucky but these are things that Ravi works on regularly during practice(tongue firmly in cheek on this one :) ). One of the greatest celebrations in cricket followed in which even the umpire was the recipient of a high-five from Ravi.  With all the main batsmen out for 97 runs the Devils went in for the kill. Faisal tried hard for his 5th wicket but was unlucky that a chance in his final over didn’t carry to the slips. However, he finished with the best bowling figures of his career and a spell that was a treat to watch for everyone except the BCC batsmen.  Ravi bowled an amazing final spell - Manohar was Ravi’s first victim caught at Long-Off. Mukesh was the second victim to fall. Ravi then got Ankit’s wicket due to an excellent stumping by Bharath. The score was 116 runs for 9 wickets when Waleed was brought back in to the attack and managed to wrap up the innings when he had Mahipat caught at square leg. BCC was all out for 125. It was a much deserved wicket for Waleed who bowled with great poise and discipline throughout the innings. Excellent bowling, fielding, and field placement were the keys in the Devils spectacular first inning performance as they derailed BCC’s famous batting lineup.
